Ministry

“Make it your your goal to love a quest life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.” -1 Thessalonians 4:11
Serving God is all about discovering how to give God your whole life.
Ministry isn’t just something you go do…it’s an understanding of the purpose of our lives, which according to Jesus is to love God and love other people (Lk 10:27).
At Jacob’s Well, we seek to empower one another to live a good life, in an open and sincere walk with God, in relationship with others and in active and genuine care and service to family, friends and neighbors.
This attentive life of presence is most fully lived out in and through our homes, schools, work and during our daily activities wherever they may take us. It’s not just a Sunday event, it’s a day to day life.
Serving God is meant to be simple, a natural expression of care that happens without a lot of fanfare, overhead or complicatedness (Matt 6:3). It’s supposed to be ‘easy and light’ not some burdensome hassle that drains the life out of you and leaves you a shriveled up husk of your former idealistic self (Matt. 11:30). That type of yoke is religion, not the way of Jesus.
We are called to join in God’s ‘work’ but it’s the kind of work that is supposed to be life giving and sustainable for the long haul. This kind of work has got to come from your heart, fueled by your passions and the God given grace and motivation within your spirit.
It’s best found where your desires, gifts and talents and real needs…touch. The church provides “equipping for works of service” and together, we discover ways to serve God in our own lives, right here, right now.
With this understanding, we realize that we don’t have to ‘go somewhere’ to serve God, instead we create a life of service that sometimes  (If God leads) changes addresses. But most of the time it’s just learning to be a good person, a loving parent or spouse, a faithful employee or student and a helpful and supportive elder. We just plant and water seeds and trust God to do a perfect work, through imperfect people…perfectly…in His time.
We hope you will join us as we all minister through our lives in the mission of God in Spokane.
